👋 Hi Wellness IQ Crew!

You see a supplement online.

  • ⭐ Glowing reviews
  • 💲 Good price
  • 🚚 Fast shipping
  • ✨ Big promises

And it can be on your doorstep tomorrow. Click. Done.

But here is the question we rarely stop to ask: Do I really know what I am buying?

In 2023, NOW Foods investigated suspicious supplements being sold on Amazon by a third-party seller and discovered 11 COUNTERFEIT NOW-branded products. Click here for more info.

The bottles looked convincing.

But testing found white rice flour inside the capsules. Some samples even contained trace amounts of sildenafil, a prescription drug.

That gets my attention.

Not because everything sold online is bad. But because where you buy a supplement matters almost as much as what you buy.

And there is another important piece most consumers do not realize:

⚠️ The FDA does not approve dietary supplements for safety or effectiveness before they are sold.

So yes, that bottle deserves a second look.

🔎 The Front of the Bottle Sells You. The Back Tells the Story.

  • “Clean.”
  • “Natural.”
  • “High potency.”
  • “Clinically formulated.”
  • “Healthy aging.”

They all sound reassuring. But those words do not answer the questions that really matter.

✅ Is the active ingredient actually present in the amount listed?

✅ Is it the right form and where was it sourced?

✅ Is the dose appropriate?

✅ Can your body absorb it?

✅ Was it manufactured, transported, and stored correctly?

✅ Could light, heat, moisture, or oxygen have degraded it?

✅ Does it interact with medications or other supplements?

✅ And most importantly: Why are you taking it in the first place?

These are exactly the kinds of questions I am studying through The Health Sciences Academy in London, where I am currently enrolled as a student (I love being both a student and a teacher :-). Their supplement-analysis framework focuses on the essentials: form, dose, storage, absorption, timing, combinations, and safety.

📋 Here’s a Free Quick-Check List

Before buying your next supplement, ask:

🌿 Is this the right form and dose?

🌿 Is the manufacturer reputable?

🌿 Can I verify sourcing and quality testing?

🌿 Was it stored and shipped appropriately?

🌿 Does it actually make sense for me?

Simple questions. Big difference.

🌱 Sourcing Can Change What You’re Getting

Take turmeric.

One of turmeric’s key active compounds is curcumin, the component most studied for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity.

But “turmeric” on a label does not tell you very much.

Where and how it is grown can influence what is actually in that raw ingredient.

For example, Lakadong turmeric from Meghalaya, India is known for exceptionally high natural curcumin content.

Then there are concentrated curcumin extracts, some standardized to much higher curcuminoid levels.

But concentration is only part of the story.

Curcumin is not particularly well absorbed on its own, which is why some formulations combine it with piperine from black pepper or use other delivery systems to improve absorption.

So suddenly, “turmeric supplement” becomes a bigger question:

📍 Which turmeric?

🌍 From where?

🧪 How much curcumin?

⚗️ What kind of extract?

💊 How was it formulated?

🔄 How well can you absorb it?

That is what I mean when I say; sourcing matters. I care about the whole chain:

🌱 source → 🏭 manufacturing → 📦 storage → 🛒 seller → 🙋 you

A weak link anywhere along the way can affect quality.

🏭 I Got to See What Quality Manufacturing Really Looks Like

I had the unique opportunity to go behind the scenes inside a GMP-certified (Good Manufacturing Practice) supplement manufacturing facility and watch the process firsthand.

It completely changed the way I looked at supplement quality.

I saw the extraordinary attention given to cleanliness, equipment, ingredient handling, contamination control, documentation, and every step of the manufacturing process.

It was meticulous.

That experience drove home something I have never forgotten:

✨ Quality does not happen by accident.
